Essay & Poster Contest Rules

Deadline:                                            Friday, December 10th, 2021

Submit Essays and Posters to:           City of Emporia Community Development Office, Jeff Lynch, 521 Market St., Emporia, KS.

Winners Announced:                          February, 2022

 

 

Poster Contest:

            Emporia students 3rd grade through 5th grade.

            Pick one of two themes:

                        “Fair Housing: Building a Better Future” or

                        “How do you show respect for one another?”

            Use poster board quality paper

            Poster maximum size: 36 inches x 48 inches

Cover sheet: (attached to back of poster) to include student’s name, parent/guardian name(s), grade level, home address, phone number.

Do not use names or titles of local people, or names of local businesses or entities of any sort.

Prizes: Emporia Main Street Gift Certificates-

            1st Place= $75; 2nd Place= $50; 3rd Place- $25

           

Essay Contest:

            Emporia students 6th grade through 12th grade.

            Pick one or more of the following questions for a theme:

“What can I do to improve human relations (among two or more groups) in      

         Emporia?”

“What does human rights mean to you?”

“What is the best way to improve human rights issues in the 21st century?”

Cover sheet: to include student’s name, parent/guardian name(s), grade level, home address, phone number.

400 word minimum, 1,000 word limit; typed, double-spaced, 12-point font, all pages numbered.

Do not use names or titles of local people, or names of local businesses or entities of any sort.

Prizes: Emporia Main Street Gift Certificates-

            1st Place= $100; 2nd Place= $75; 3rd Place- $50
