The City of Emporia has an established Police Department, Fire Department, and community Health Center servicing Emporia and other surrounding areas.

The Emporia Police Department is dedicated to providing the citizens of Emporia with professional quality law enforcement with a commitment towards ensuring protection of life, liberty, and property. With on duty officers, a special response team, and a patrol squad, the Emporia Police Department does its best to maintain a level of safety amongst the city. Also, the Police Department runs an Animal Control operation. This operation provides both shelter and adoption aspects as well as ensuring animal safety throughout the city.

The Emporia Fire Department provides fire suppression services to Lyon County district #4. The districts is comprised of Fremont, Emporia, Pike Townships, and part of Jackson Township. In addition to fire suppression services, the Emporia Fire Department also provides emergency amubulatory and medical practices to Lyon County; otherwise known as the City of Emporia/Lyon County Ambulance Service.
